Horse should be dry and clean.
All of the equipment currently being used for the horse, including current saddles. Have a bridle, girth, stirrups, and saddle blanket ready to use. If you do not have any equipment, please let us know prior to your appointment, so we can bring options.
A flat surface area for the horse to stand comfortably for the saddle fit assessment.
Have a fenced, flat field or arena to ride in.
If you’re buying a jump saddle, have jumps available for the appointment.
What will the saddle fitter do?
Measure and trace a template of the horse's back.
Examine the horse's back for any soreness, lumps, bumps, or cuts.
Assess the fit and condition of your current saddle, as you may not need to replace it.
We can discuss other saddle options for both horse and rider as needed.
Assess the saddle ridden at a walk, trot, and canter (if appropriate for horse and rider level).
If you are looking to buy used we can help you in your search online.
If you are buying a new saddle, we will fill out the appropriate paper work for your order.
How long will the saddle fit take?
Each saddle fit will take take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to complete.
How often should the saddle be refit?
Every 6 months for your regular saddle, or sooner if your horse has gone through a major fitness or health change.
If you’ve purchased a new saddle, we recommend you have it checked after the first 3 months of riding in it. A horse’s musculature will often change shape under a newly fitting saddle, and this development in addition to the flocking in new saddles which tend to bed down and need topping up, warrants re-checking the saddle fit.
